MEET ÁRNÝ BJÖRK & ÁRNÝ

TOUR GUIDE & MANAGER
ÁRNÝ BJÖRK
I was born in Reykjavík in 1982, but my heart has always belonged to the countryside — especially to the quiet valley where my mother and I now care for our beloved horses and sheep.
After spending a few years living abroad in Sweden, I returned to Iceland with new eyes. The landscapes I once saw as beautiful now felt utterly breathtaking. That shift changed everything. I knew I wanted to spend my life in nature — not just admiring it, but sharing it.
That’s why I became a guide.
For me, guiding isn’t about ticking off sights. It’s about helping people slow down, breathe in the moment, and feel the deep peace that lives in the Icelandic landscape. Whether it’s cuddling a newborn lamb or sipping coffee as the sun hovers on the horizon, I believe these gentle experiences stay with us the longest.
I studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at university, and wrote my thesis on the ethical legitimacy of rights for nature — an idea that still shapes how I live and guide today. Nature, to me, is not a backdrop. It’s a living presence, worthy of reverence and respect.
And people? They’re just as important. I love meeting travelers from all over the world and making space for real, meaningful connection — both with each other and with this magical place I call home.

FOUNDER & TOUR GUIDE
ÁRNÝ
I was born in 1957 in Hornafjörður, a beautiful fjord in East Iceland. I spent my early years on a traditional Icelandic farm, surrounded by animals, open spaces, and the ever-changing rhythm of nature. Though I moved to Reykjavík at a young age to study, that deep connection to the countryside has never left me.
I’m a registered nurse with a Master’s degree in Healthcare Management and a certified resuscitation instructor. Over the years, I’ve worked in many different areas of healthcare, but movement and wellness have always been central to my life.
For many years, I was an aerobics instructor — but eventually, I longed to take my passion out of the gym and into the fresh air. That’s when I started Kraftganga, which means “power walking” in Icelandic. Through Kraftganga, I’ve guided hikes all over Iceland, climbed countless mountains (including Hvannadalshnúkur, our highest peak), and shared the joy of moving in harmony with the land.
These days, you’ll find me happiest at our farm, Hvassafell, spending quiet time with our horses and sheep. I love caring for them, listening to them, and just being in their presence. My daughter sometimes calls me “the animal whisperer” — and I take that as the highest compliment.
For me, nature has always been a source of strength, balance, and joy. I love sharing that feeling with our guests.
